A small current was applied to the right and left median nerves (0.2 ms in duration) in a random fashion to elicit painless involuntary thumb twitches. The ISI varied between 1 and 2 seconds. Three hundred responses to each wrist were acquired. Median nerve stimulation activates a large area of the hand (thumb, index finger, middle finger and radial side of the ring finger).
